Valve Assessment and Exercising
Whether you are dealing with a water main break or a firefighting effort, the importance of assessment and exercising your valves becomes apparent during an emergency situation. Our field teams can help you prepare for those situations by ensuring your valves are in proper working order.
Valve Assessment
Our field teams perform a thorough assessment of each valve in your water distribution system. Valves are checked for defects and map discrepancies, and detailed notes are documented in our data collection application that is later compiled into a final report.
Valve Exercising
Every valve included in the program is hand-turned and exercised in accordance with the AWWA manual M-44. The turn data collected includes the number of turns, location, valve size, etc. and is compiled into a final report.
HydroV® | Seized Valve Release System
Hydrosave’s valve release technology utilizes a unique approach to safely and efficiently release the frozen/inoperable valves without the need for excavation or replacement. This cost effective, environmentally friendly solution minimizes disruption to communities the utilities serve and reduces the costs and carbon footprint associated with traditional construction/maintenance methods.
Hydrant Services
From assessment to flushing to flow testing, our Hydrant Services are designed to ensure that your municipality is prepared to meet any challenge when it arises, and keep your system in compliance.
Hydrant Assessment (Maintenance-ISO / Verisk Compliance)
Our hydrant assessment program is specifically designed to assist your municipality in maintaining ISO/Verisk certification by ensuring they meet the standards of operation.
Hydrant Flow Testing (Water Main Capacity)
Testing your water system’s water main capacity is essential in not only discovering your system’s hydraulic deficiencies, but also determining how your hydrants perform in an emergency. We’re proud to offer programs that include both hydrant maintenance and flow testing to keep you in compliance.
Unidirectional Water Main Flushing
We can assist you in developing your own water main flushing program. Through planning and recording of the valve closing / hydrant flushing sequence, our expert teams will provide you with a documented procedure to launch your own water main flushing program.
ePulse® Pipeline Condition Assessment
Using our Echologics® ePulse® program, we can identify the condition of both distribution and transmission water mains all without the need for large excavations or service disruptions. This is essential in developing capital improvement programs and determining which segments of a water main need to be replaced.
GPS & Mapping Services
Whether you have a GIS system already in place or you are looking for help creating one, M.E. Simpson Co., Inc. can provide you with field verified GPS & mapping services to fit your specific needs.
GPS Collection
Our team has the capabilities to provide you with field-verified asset GPS positions. This service can be added on to another service or performed as a stand-alone service. Utilizing Trimble® GPS equipment, we collect location accuracies from sub-meter to sub-foot.
Pro-Maps® / Trimble® Unity
Our Pro-Maps® program provides a management system for your assets in a live, user-friendly interface that is designed for use for both in-field and in the office. Trimble® Unity’s work order management system allows you to keep track of your assets as well as their historical data including valves, hydrants, meters, water main, and more.
Digital Map Editing / Creation
We can help you create an up-to-date verified field atlas. Whether you already have a full GIS system in place or are starting from square one, we offer flexible solutions that can incorporate our GPS collection and Pro-Maps® services to fit your specific needs.
Lead Service Line Detection
We are proud to team with Electro Scan, a leader in cutting edge FELL (focused electrode leak location) technology. Using that technology, they have developed the Swordfish to help determine the material of unknown services to meet the EPA’s Lead Mitigation regulation.
Electro Scan's Swordfish
Electro Scan’s Swordfish service features low voltage conductivity FELL (Focused Electrode Leak Location) and utilizes a combined lead detection and leak location tool. Swordfish is designed for service lines ranging from .5” – 3” in diameter. Access is gained through the meter or curb box using a launch tool and has a range up to 80 linear feet. Swordfish can determine changes in pipe material and can be used on virtually any pipe material. If lead is detected, a secondary chemical test is performed to confirm the presence of lead.
